Food Art – Indestructible Rocket

I learned a lot after making this plate for Gab.  Rockets are one of Gab’s favorite things and my inspiration for this food art.  He might become a rocket scientist someday after eating this one.

Whenever there are flash cards or a drawing in an iPad app of a rocket, his eyes are glued into it.  He would call my attention and point to the drawing.

“It’s a rocket, Daddy.  It’s a rocket!”

I would remember how is eyes would follow a red rocket in an iPad app when he was less than a year old.  And how happy I was to hear him say “rocket” the first time when he was less than two-years-old.  Oh how Gab grows up to fast… just like a rocket.

Here’s what is on his plate.

03 Food - Indestructible Rocket - Notes

1 Planets – These are carrots.  One was shaped like a moon using a knife.

2 Stars – Made from sliced cheese.  You can use a toothpick to cut sliced cheese into stars if the cheese is soft enough.  If not, use a knife instead.

3 Rocket Hull – French bread were cut into four smaller sizes so that they will be easier to eat.

4 Rocket Wings and Window – Apple slices.  The bigger the apple, the better the shape of the wings will be since you have more room to cut.

5 Landing Area and Craters.  A mix of cereals, dried fruits and raisins.

Why the rocket is indestructible

There is nothing in the plate that Gab doesn’t eat.  He loves bread, cereals, cheese, and apples.  However, he never touched a thing when I showed him his food.  He did not want to eat it.  Quennie and I wondered why.

Maybe he hates the food.  Maybe he doesn’t like to eat yet.  Maybe he is already full.

Quennie gave him a slice of bread from her plate.  Gab ate the bread.

Quennie got the bread from Gab’s plate and gave it to Gab.  Gab doesn’t want to eat it.

“No, mommy.  It’s not food.  It’s a rocket.”

Quennie tried giving him the cheese on his plate.

“No, mommy.  It’s not food.  It’s a star.”

Quennie tried giving him the carrots on his plate.

“No, mommy.  It’s not food.  It’s a star.”

Now that’s silly.  We realized that Gab wants to eat as long as it’s not his rocket.  He finds it too adorable to be eaten.  His rocket is untouchable.  It’s indestructible.

I guess I shouldn’t make it more edible rather than adorable.  😀
