Why is Bruno Mars twice better than Dad

One of the challenges of being a Dad is putting the baby to sleep and soothing a crying baby. Quennie seems to do it effortlessly. She would simply unbutton her top and breastfeed Gab. In a little while Gab will fall asleep. Or when Gab wakes up, he would cry, thinking we left him alone. Once again, Quennie will just breastfeed him and Gab will be alright.

Now that is something Dad can never do.

Preparing the song in my cellphone

Enter Bruno Mars.

I discovered this when Quennie’s trick wasn’t working. Even after feeding Gab, he would still be restless and refuse to sleep. This is where Bruno Mars is of a big help. I would simply play the song Count on Me by Bruno Mars on my cellphone. It seems to have a hypnotic effect on Gab. Most of the time, Gab would rest his head on my shoulder upon hearing the song. After 3-4 repetition, Gab would be asleep. Sometimes, we can go on for more than 10 songs but he would be just resting his head and sleep.

Gab starts to feel sleepy as the music plays

Gab wakes up in the morning he would usually cry. Maybe he is looking for Quennie who is already off to work. I would carry him and assure him that I’m just here for him. But that would not be enough. He would even cry louder when I hold him in my arms. Once again, Bruno Mars will save the day. I would play the same song and Gab would stop crying. He would look for the source of the music and play around with my cellphone. Sometimes he just drops the cellphone and smiles at me.

Mission accomplished.

I did try other songs but they don’t have the same effect as “Count on Me”. I also tried singing it myself since I can’t find my cellphone. Gab cries even more.

I guess the Gab knows that Bruno Mars’ “Count on Me” Β is his soothing song. Dad may not have a soothing voice but Gab knows that when the music plays, he can count on Dad!

  1. this is the cutest thing i’ve ever read! Bruno had a similar soothing effect on my baby…even better his singing is something we both enjoy, so i didn’t get tired of hearing his voice repeatedly

  2. Hi mel. Thanks for dropping by. I dont get tired of the song too. I enjoy hearing it with Gab everytime I put him to sleep. The song would even play on my head at other times of the day. It just sticks there.
