Romantic Breakfast for Quennie’s Birthday

For Quennie’s Birthday, I decided to surprise her with a romantic breakfast.  I bought the ingredients the day before and tried to hide them inside the fridge.  When Quennie was already asleep, I started preparing some of the menu.  I was excited to cook them up the following day.

For the romantic breakfast, I prepared a chicken ham and cheese croissant, heart-shaped bread with egg, chocolate-coated heart-shaped strawberries, and hot chocolate with marshmallows.

The night before, I sliced the croissant, the bread and the strawberries.  It was a matter of putting them together the next day.

Romantic Breakfast

I woke up earlier than Quennie and Gab to start working on the breakfast. I tried working fast so that I will be done before they woke up.  The idea is to serve these to Quennie in bed.  A romantic breakfast in bed for a birthday sounds nice. Unfortunately, Gab woke up earlier than expected and Quennie was up while I was still finishing up the set.

Hot Chocolate Drink with Mallows

The hot chocolate was from Swiss Miss, one of Quennie’s favorite chocolate drink.

DADDY TIP:  The mallows would melt fast when hot water is poured over it.  Try separating the mallows first before pouring hot water.  Then, put the mallows on top only when ready to serve.

Heart Shaped Bread with Egg

Heart shaped bread with Egg

The heart-shaped bread with egg is something I saw on the Internet.  It looks so easy but it actually took me three tries to perfect it.  The first one had too many egg white that it overflowed.  The second one had a broken egg yoke.  And finally, the third one was just perfect.

DADDY TIP:  Don’t put the eggs directly on the bread when cooking to avoid overflowing of the egg white.  Place the egg  in a cup first.  Then, using a spoon, pour the egg white little by little into the shaped bread.  Once it is filled to an acceptable level, add the egg yoke and position it in the middle.

Heart Shaped Strawberries

For more hearts for a romantic breakfast, I prepared heart-shaped strawberries.  There are several way to prepare a heart-shaped strawberry.  I prefer just cutting them in half and rounding up the top edges with a knife to make the heart shape.  Dipping them in chocolate made the heart shape rounded, more pronounced and more delicious.

DADDY TIP:  Shape the strawberries and freeze them overnight so that the chocolate will coat easily.

We had a great breakfast.  Quennie loved it. Maybe we should do this more often.

Happy Birthday Que*!  May you have more birthdays to come… so I can make more breakfasts like this.
