iPad App Review: Baby Milestones 1st Year

Being a new daddy, I am anxious to see how Gab grows so fast in the first year.  In fact, there are more developments with the baby in their first year than any other age .  It is exciting to anticipate all the “first” in the baby.  The Baby Milestones iPad App is a quick reference for parents on the babies development month by month.  It guides parents how to nurture these exciting developments as well.

Baby Milestones 1st Year is a simple app but it is well organized.  The key baby milestones are arranged per month.  The home page gives a quick glance of the contents of the entire app.

Each month is then divided into Physical Development, Intellectual Development and Social Development.  A summary is provided in every month.  Each baby milestone is presented in a long paragraph which looks boring.  But it is written in a way that is simple and easy to understand.  The summary is given in outline form.

Baby MilestonesMy favorite part in each development stage is the “How to interact with your baby” section.  It gives parents ideas on how to nurture these development stages and help the baby progress to the next.

For example, Gab is six months now and loves to reach out to any object.  Baby Milestones suggests to parent to encourage the baby to crawl by placing toys out of his reach.  This is exactly what we are doing and we see Gab exerting effort to improve his crawl.  However, some of these tips would be repeated in the next month.  But two or more new tips are given as well.  You won’t run out of ideas.

Baby Milestones iPad App also provides a Baby Food Guide.  It shows a food chart, common allergy foods, foods that pose a choking hazard, and a nutrition chart.  These are very helpful as we were preparing for Gab’s first solid food.

Baby Milestones iPadDevelopment guide ends with this disclaimer: “Please note: All children are unique and this guide is not intended to substitute for the advice of your pediatrician or other physician who should be consulted regarding any specific questions or concerns.”

It’s an important reminder whenever we see Gab doing some of the thing mentioned in the app.  We know that sooner or later, he’d be doing just fine.

The Baby Milestones 1st Year costs 1.99 USD at iTunes.  While, the contents are very useful, I find it quite expensive for a simple app that is mainly text and few photos.
