Gab’s First Homemade Popsicle

Since summer, Quennie and I have been looking for popsicle molds.  We have seen a few but they are either too expensive or too big for Gab.  So yesterday, I had an inspiration of making a homemade popsicle using a homemade popsicle mold.

Making the Homemade Popsicle Mold

I used an empty container of my favorite yogurt snack as the mold.  It seems to be the right size.  I bought some popsicle sticks.  I was not able to find the sticks at the grocery store.  I bought them from a bookstore instead.  I made sure there is a non-toxic label on the popsicle sticks.

Making the Avocado Popsicle

We still have some avocados for Gab.  So I decided to use them for the popsicle.  I added fresh milk and about 2 teaspoons of white sugar.  I used a hand mixer to blend them together.  The mixture covered just 3/4 of the mold.

Freezing the popsicle took overnight.  I was ready to give Gab his first popsicle treat the following morning.

It’s Gab’s first cold treat.  I am curious on what his reaction will be.

At first, he was tentative.  He likes holding the stick but had no signs of tasting it.  And then it happened, Gab placed the ice-cold avocado popsicle to his tongue.  Just a lick.  It’s a start.  Then, the licking gets more frequent.  He loves it.  He calls it “A-TAM” or ice cream.

The licking gets more frequent and so is wiping his face.

Gab gives an approving smile.  Priceless.

However, he wasn’t able to finish the whole stick.  I think the homemade popsicle mold is too big.  It looks like the right size but it seems to be heavy for his hands.  I’ll try to look for something smaller next time. But for now, this yogurt cup makes a good homemade popsicle mold.
