Gab Gets His First Haircut

I kept on insisting that Gab needs his haircut. I got Quennie and Gab cornered last Sunday. We had nothing to do in the afternoon so a trip to the mall was agreed. We were worried that Gab might create a scene but it turned out so well.

We went to Cuts 4 Tots in Glorietta.  It was near our place and we like way they prepared the place. It doesn’t look intimidating for kids.  It looks more like a playground than a kids salon. Gab is already two years old when he got his first haircut.

TIPS: When to give babies a haircut

On one side were the toys where kids can play while waiting. It is also a waiting place for parents and caregivers.  I find it a bit crowded though especially during peak hours.  But the haircut takes just about 10-15 minutes so the intervals are quite fast.

A car seat for kids makes haircut more fun

To make the first haircut fun, Gab got to sit in a car. He loves cars and it was easy to get him seated. We actually went to Cuts 4 Tots a month before.  This is to help Gab become familiarized with the place. Sure enough, he went straight to the car seat when we entered the salon.

DADDY TIP: Visit the salon several times before the actual haircut.  The more familiar the kids are, the less anxious they become during the actual haircut.

Cut 4 Tots have a small TV in front set where kids can watch their favorite shows.  This helps to keep them still while the haircut is in progress. They have videos of your favorite cartoon characters like Mickey Mouse, Dora, Spongebob, and more.  Gab choose his favorite: Mickey Mouse Clubhouse.

The barber moves fast but safe. He knows when to keep cutting and when to stop when Gab moves a lot. Quennie was there to assist. She made sure Gab’s head is kept still while the barber does his thing.

Little by little, Gab’s face transforms.

 

 

We availed of Haircut + First Haircut Certificate.  This includes a before and after photo, lock of hair and a certificate.  It costs 525 Php. A complete list of services and pricelist for Cuts 4 Tots is available below.

DADDY TIP: Ask for a small clear plastic bag where you can keep the first haircut. Mommies love to keep them.

The certificate will be available after two weeks. The staff will take the photos with their own camera.  It’s a simple point-and-shoot camera. Don’t expect something excellent out of the photos but you are free to take your own.

DADDY TIP: Bring a still camera or a video cam for keepsakes on your babies old look.

Gab’s haircut cost much more expensive than what I used to pay my barber. I’m not really complaining since the first one turned out se well.  Below are the services and prices at Cuts 4 Tots.

Overall, we were happy with the service. The staff were very accommodating and helpful.  They can provide tips to make the first one manageable and less worries.

The salon was well designed for kids. The play area, the car seat and the videos were very helpful to keep the kids still during the haircut.  Surely, the next haircut will even be easier for Gab.

So when will the next haircut be? Probably after several months or even after a year. 😀
