Food Art – Quesadilla Mountain

This is my first attempt in making food art for Gab. I call it the Quesadilla Mountain and Gab loves his food. Well, most of it, but he is still choosy on the veggies.

Gab is very picky when it comes to food. He has his favorites. It’s usually bread, fruits and anything crunchy. Seems like a healthy choice but we are concerned he doesn’t get the right balance and variety.  He seldom eat vegetables and very few protein from meat products.

Making food art might make meal time more interesting to him. So I started with something he is familiar with and added something new for him to try out.  I shaped out a mountain from a basic cheese quesadilla recipe and viola — he is excited to eat.

Food - Quesadilla Mountain - Notes

Here’s what is on his plate.

1. The Sun. It’s just sliced tomato for the circle and julienned baby carrots for the rays. He ate a few carrots but left out the tomato. Just as I expected.

2. Clouds. These are strips of scrambled eggs and carrots. He liked the eggs and finished them off.

3. Trees. It’s simple a slice romaine lettuce. As you would have guessed, Gab did not eat this one. He even told yaya that “We don’t eat trees.”

4. Mountain. The mountain is simply a tortilla wrap with a cheese filling. I used whole wheat tortilla here. I also added grated carrots with the cheese filling. A great way to hide vegetables for kids.

5. Rocks and boulders. A mix of corn flakes, cereals and raisins. This is one of Gab’s favorite. I placed this so that Gab sees something familiar with his food. He quickly finishes this one.

My first food art was well accepted. Not bad for a start. More food art for Gab coming soon. 😀
