Here are some handy tips for a happy summer outing:

Sun Protection

As much as possible  avoid sun exposure during the peak intensity hours – between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. to prevent sunburn. Apply sunscreen to the exposed body parts such as the face, arms/hands. Reapply sunscreen every two hours, or after swimming or sweating. Be sure to check with your pedia what sunscreen is recommended for your baby or toddler.

Wearing of hat with a wide brim or with an underbrim to cover the back of neck and sunglasses will also help protect you from the harmful sun rays.

Swimming Safety

Never leave children in the pool or near the pool area alone. Always make sure a child of any age is supervised even if the child is an excellent swimmer. There should be no running, pushing or diving in the shallow end. During rains, no one should be in the water due to the possibility of a lightning strike.

At the beach, you can use an inflatable pool as a play spot for babies or if your children are too young for ocean swimming.

Staying Hydrated

For kids to stay hydrated, they should be drinking water throughout the day. Drinking lots of water is important especially when kids are out in the hot sun as their bodies tend to lose a lot of water through sweat.

If you are heading to the beach, beware of trash and broken glass. It is best to keep your shoes, sandals, water shoes, or flip-flops on while walking to avoid stepping on these hazards.  Also, the sand can be extremely hot.

We are packing our bags and a few days, we are flying to Boracay for this year’s summer escapade.  Hope everyone will have a happy and safe summer trip!
