Gab Hates Wearing Barong

Gab will be the ring bearer for a wedding this weekend.  Quennie and I went shopping for his barong but Gab doesn’t like wearing it.

Preparing Gab for the Barong

We wanted Gab to look great in his first assignment as a ring bearer.  We tried to train him a little how to walk down the aisle and can do it on his own for a few meters.  Then he’d cling to Mommy.

We also talked to him about wearing a barong.  In fact, if you ask him what he will wear during the wedding, he’d say “ba-wong”.

We thought by now, it will make wearing the barong easy for Gab.

But I have a feeling Gab won’t like wearing barong.  I hated wearing it too when I was a toddler myself.  I find it itchy and uncomfortable. But I have to follow orders and march down the aisle.

Fitting the Barong

We went to SM Makati to look for the barong for kids.  They are located at the kids section and not at the men’s section where we went first. There were a few choices.  Later, we found out that there are more choices of barong for kids and toddlers at Landmark.

Thus, it was not a surprise when Gab would not wear one when we ask him to fit the barong. He would cry and ask us to return it to the shelves. Sometimes Gab would run away and Quennie would have to chase him a little around the store.

Sorry, but we had to force Gab to fit the barong.  We did it by bring him to the toys section to distract him.  Then little by little, we would put his arms inside the sleeves and sealed the buttons in front.  Gab never showed a happy face and kept on asking to remove the barong he was wearing.

We fitted an Onesimus Barong for toddlers but it was too big for him.  Then, Quennie found barong for baptism.  It fits but not as nice looking as the Onesimus.  We opted to buy the cheaper barong.  In case Gab doesn’t really want to wear it during the wedding, at least it’s not a big waste compared to buying the more expensive one.
