Teaching Baby Gab to Pray

I can still remember the time when my mother taught me my first prayer. She called me and my sister one evening before we went to sleep. She asked us to recite after her a simple prayer and told us to keep doing this every night. That simple prayer of just about 5 sentences eventually evolve to a longer one today. But the way I start and end the prayer is still the same.

It was our mother who taught us the habit of praying.  And my life has been very colorful because of prayer.  I strongly believe in its power and I would never be where and who I am today without it.

I wanted Gab to learn the habit of praying too so I am starting to teach him at a young age.  Yeah, at two months old.  😀

I don’t ask him to recite or memorize  it.  But early in the morning, when both of us are awake (Gab wakes up first), I would hold Gab such that we would be facing each other.  Then, I would ask him to pray with me as I recite these words.

Dear Jesus,

Thank you for this beautiful day that I will be sharing with my loved ones.  Bless mommy and daddy as they provide for my needs today.  Be in my heart and teach me how to be a good boy.  Keep me strong and healthy and be ready for your plans.  This we ask thru Christ our Lord, Amen.

It’s a simple prayer.  But sometimes, as I recite these words slowly, I would get goosebumps as I know how Jesus loves to listen to the prayer of little children.  Even a simple prayer like this can be powerful.

I pray that Gab will grow up as a prayerful person and would believe in its power to change and transform.
