We have never joined a family day before despite invitations from friends, church and groups. Gab was still too small to be joining family events then. Thus, we were excited to be invited in the Handyman Family Day last October 26.
It was a perfect time since all of us are free. It was a holiday so there was no office and Quennie, Gab and I can be together and have fun for a day.
Team Gavan at Handyman’s Family Day
Registration
The Handyman Family Day 2012 was held at Robinsons Place Manila. The registration booth was already busy accommodating other families who are excited to be part of the event.
We were given a passport which contains a layout of the Handyman store. There will be 9 stations where we need to stop and complete the task. Once the task is complete, we will get a stamp on our passport and a clue for the mystery item. After all the tasks are complete, we need to find the mystery item which carries the Family Day sticker. We can only get our family day treat once we complete the 9 stamps and find the Family Day sticker.
Team Handyman giving instructions to Team Gavan
Sounds like fun. It is not a race but we want to finish early since there are lots of families coming in and the stations might be crowded already.
Station #1 – Pr1mero
The first stop was at Pr1mero. The task was to open the door lock by pressing the correct digital combination on its keypad. This advanced security system looks intimidating and will surely scare bad elements away from our homes. But the staff gave us a clue that leads us to the right combination. We received our first stamp and our first clue.
Station #2 – Command
This station requires no introduction for me. I use a lot of Command Damage-free hanging solutions at home and in the office. It’s great for organizing cables, decorating the home, and adding hooks on the wall. I easily got the second stamp and the clue after listening to a product brief from the staff.
Station #3 – Eco Sense
The task was simple: Watch the Demo. Eco Sense booth had two showers and two tubs to be filled with water. One shower was Eco Sense and the other was Brand X. Both tubs were empty and the faucet was opened in unison. In an instant, the tubs were being filled with water. But look which tub gets filled up first. It’s Brand X! Eco Sense was able to reduce water consumption making it more efficient and eco-friendly. A convincing demo and we got our third stamp and the clue.
Station #4 – Bosch
The task was to drill in 5 screws on the wood using Skil Power Tools. The drill was easy to use and drives the screws smoothly into the wood. It’s battery operated and very portable. It was fast and gets the job done. I got the stamp and the clue.
Station #5 – Bayer
At the Bayer station, we were given a “Letter to the Parents”. Inside was OFF!icial Newsletter which talks about dengue, the facts and figures and notes about the deadly mosquito. It also gives advice on how to protect our families from dengue with products like Baygon Spray, Baygon Liquid Mosquito Repeller, Baygon Coil and Off! Lotion for Kids. At the back of the letter, was a Find-A-Word game. We have to find the hidden words in a matrix of letters. Out of ten, we just need to find five words like dengue, family, Off, and the likes. We got our fifth stamp and the clue.
Station #6 – Black and Decker
It’s drill time once again. This time we just have to drill in three screws using a Black and Decker Drill. The drill was battery operated with a big battery pack below the handle. But it was surprisingly lightweight. It was lightweight yet powerful enough to drill in the screws fast into the wood. It also has a reverse function. After the task, we got our sixth stamp and the clue.
Station #7 – Firefly
The Firefly station was Gab’s favourite. If we can place all three rings into any of the poles, we get a special prize. Otherwise, we just get the stamp. Gab could have easily placed all three rings into the pole but we have to throw the rings from a certain distance. I did the throwing and missed all three. We did not get the special prize but we got the stamp and the clue.
Station #8 – Do it Best Quality Paints
We were given a card where we write down the correct color that will come out when we combine the two colors shown on the left. We just need to answer three correctly so I answered the simple ones. Red + Yellow = Orange. Blue + Red = Purple. Yellow + Green = Yellow Green. We got our eighth stamp and the clue.
Station #9 – Breville
Breville station had a showcase of their griller and juicer. The griller was making pizza which smelled so good and making me hungry. The juicer had just made a fresh mixture of fruits. The task was a simple question on our favourite juice. Gab was the one who answered: Apple Juice. So we got our final stamp and the final clue.
The Mystery Item
Either Quennie thinks I’m the smarter one or she just wants to join the art class and other side activities for kids. I was tasked to figure out what the mystery item is while Quennie and Gab stayed at the activity area.
Kids having fun with colors
Refreshing Milk Tea from Happy Lemon
Putting the pieces together to find the mystery item
I read and read and read the clues several times until it was clear to me that this is a product being sold in Handyman. It is used for cleaning since the clues talked about hand washing and laundry. Quite confusing and I looked around the store for any cleaning products until I saw this display.
Wishy Washy is the Mystery Item!
The answer was just at the tip of my nose. It’s Wishy Washy! I took the bottle and found the Family Sticker on it. I removed the sticker and placed it on my passport. The stamps and the sticker are now complete. I got back to Quennie and Gab and we rushed to the customer service where we got our loot bag.
It was a big loot bag with lots of stuff we can use at home. The Handyman Family Day was a great way for us to spend time together. The activities were really something the whole family can take part with. Even Gab got his tasks done for Team Gavan to complete the quest. Plus there were prizes, food, discounts and fun activities.
Thanks Handyman for the fun activities. Team Gavan will surely remember our first Family Day.
