Gab vs Barong: Love and Hate

Gab is the ring bearer. And we know that Gab hates wearing a barong. Just like Dad. But he took it like a man and walk down the aisle while holding Mom’s hand. In the end, Gab made peace with his outfit.

We let Gab wear his barong minutes before he walks down the aisle. As the principal sponsors are marching, Quennie and I took Gab outside the church. Mom slips the barong, while I distract him from the discomfort.  Yet, Gab still cried as Mom buttons the barong. In a matter of seconds, Gab is the next one to march.

Mom prompts him that his turn to march. Like a switch, Gab stops crying and starts taking the steps towards the altar. His eyes were still watery but he walks the entire aisle while holding Mom’s hand.

This was the only photo I took. I was supposed to take a video but I forgot how to configure the camera properly and ended up doing the wrong things. Tsk tsk…

As he reached the altar, reality sinks in. Gab realized he was wearing his barong and fought to take it off.

But he was no match for the barong. It’s clings to him like a second skin.

Eventually, Gab made peace with the barong and wore it the entire time. We only took it off when the wedding ceremony was finished and it was time to get back to the hotel for the reception.

Here’s Gab at ease with his barong. He’s wearing a big smile to match it.
