Benefits of Living in a Condo

We have been living in a condo for more than a year now. It does have its advantages and disadvantages. But I would like to believe I made the right decision so I always look at the benefits. 😀

We used to stay in an apartment but we get flooded every time a typhoon or a strong rainfall comes. During those times, we would evacuate to a condo unit of my in-laws. Since Gab is getting bad experiences with floods, we decided to move to a condo as well.

Benefits of Living in a Condo

No Flood. It does not flood inside our unit since we stay at the 20th floor. But it does flood right outside our street. At least, we don’t get our things wet like before.

Smaller Area to Clean. Condo units are usually small than an apartment or a house. But it also means a lesser floor area to clean.

Less Maintenance and Repair. I don’t get to fix and repair the outlets or the faucets. The building maintenance usually handles them.

Minimalist and Frugal Living. Since the space is small, we only buy things that are really needed. Smaller appliances also means smaller energy consumption, thus our bills are lesser than before.

Great Location. Condominiums are often located in prime locations. Our condo is right across a small mall and a supermarket. It is also near banks and hospitals. There are convenience stores at the ground floor and nice restaurants just a few meters away. We are also one bus/jeep ride to the big malls so commuting is not an issue.

Secure and Safe. In our previous apartment, we got robbed once. So far, we are safe at the condo with the 24/7 security guards and CCTV monitoring system. Unit owners looks out for each other, too. When we see a door key still hanging on the knob, we knock to let the owner know.

Amenities. There’s a pool and a gym. Unfortunately, we don’t use it that often. 😛

Disadvantages of Living in a Condo

Of course, there are disadvantages when living in a condo. There are monthly association fees to pay, many rules to follow, waiting time to ride the elevator, and a small floor space that can hardly fit all of Gab’s toy.

Is Condo Living for You?

Yet, things have turned simpler when we moved in. There are problems but we can sort it out.

I would recommend a condo for busy young professionals, newly-wed couples and small families.

Are you staying in a condo too? How do you find it?
